Hi, I'm Cristina Casares, and I've joined Barfoot & Thompson at an exciting time for real estate. The world is becoming ever more digital and the way people buy and sell is changing just as quickly.
The fundamentals of selling your property haven't changed, it's just the way you connect with buyers! These days you probably hear a lot about "new media" - well, I've been living it for 20 years! My career in 3D film animation took me all over the world, each leap forward in 3D technology brought new opportunities to tell stories that resonate. In film, as in real estate, the idea is King... and having a creative person marketing your home gives you a huge advantage over those whose agents still think an ad in the print media is all it takes to get top dollar! Born in Argentina but now a long-term New Zealand resident with my children, I've always loved houses, even starting to train as an architect at university, before animation took over. My professional career seemed to keep leading me back to houses; and over the years I've created many large 3D mock-ups for developments both in New Zealand and in Argentina. Working closely with all the stakeholders from councils to developers to homeowners has given me a uniquely holistic view of housing markets and what makes them tick.
On a personal level, I've always been a big believer in giving back to the communities I live and work in. I've sat on many Boards, including Film Auckland, Creative Digital Content Auckland (CDC) and Women in Film and Television (WIFT). And I've just recently joined the Grey Lynn Resident's Association.
With my "new media" expertise and the fact I'm a storyteller at heart, I believe I can tell the unique story of your home in interesting ways so a buyer can see how it can become the next chapter of theirs. Que tengas un gran día. :)
In today’s real estate market, it is difficult to find a truly highly-skilled salesperson with years of experience in negotiating to achieve the very best price. Eugene offers this unique point of difference to his clients.
Eugene enjoyed 11 years in Auckland’s ultra-competitive vehicle sales industry. It was here that he excelled from day one, using and honing his strong negotiation skills, personally signing up thousands of clients. From his success as a salesman, Eugene progressed through the ranks to become Sales Manager and then onto Branch Manager. His passion and ability to obtain the very best result for his client is in-grained into his technique.
A confident, hard-working and self-motivated professional who prides himself on exceptional ‘straight up’ communication and a sincere understanding of people - resulting in numerous long standing business relationships.
There are plenty of salespeople out there, but very few with the selling skills, passion and experience of Eugene Yamamoto.
With over 27 years in the real estate industry, the last seven with Barfoot & Thompson, I have gained a lot of knowledge and seen a number of changes in this competitive industry.
The most pleasing aspect of listing and selling real estate for me is the pure enjoyment I still get from meeting and working together with people - whether they are a buyer or a seller. The satisfaction of helping a home owner sell and a customer buy property is still very much my main motivation for being in this business. By alleviating the stress of my clients and customers, keeping things simple and making people feel comfortable from the outset; I develop clients and friendships for life.
I can attribute my longevity in real estate to the pleasure of meeting and working with people from all walks of life and the fact that I am down to earth and listen to what my clients want. I am committed, loyal, and prepared to go the extra distance when it is exceptional service you want and deserve.
In my spare time, I enjoy time out with my family and I am a keen sportsman, with an interest in all types of sporting activities. In the past, I have played senior club rugby for the Mt Roskill, North Shore and Ponsonby Rugby Clubs, in addition to representing the Auckland Rugby A team in the 1970s. These days, my activities revolve around social touch rugby and golf.
Joining Barfoot & Thompson has always been an ambition of mine and my only regret is not joining this strong, well-known and proven company earlier in my real estate career.
My family has been involved with real estate and land for about 75 years. My Great Grandparents used to farm at East Tamaki – their farm was called ‘Low Bank’ – I believe that the original homestead is still there. As soon as I could read, my Grandfather would have me read aloud the advertisements from the “Houses & Land For Sale’ column in the New Zealand Herald and the stock market.
It was in the 6th form at the tender age of 17, that I achieved my first ‘sale’ to my chemistry teach. I introduced him to our home and subsequently he bought it. It is a lovely old bungalow on the slopes of Mt Albert. The sale price was around $18,000 and I believe he still lives there today!
My formal introduction to selling real estate began in 1996. Armed with some experience and knowledge from several personal dealings in real estate followed by attaining my salesperson certificate, I duly commenced work as a salesperson.
Years on I enjoy a rapport with a wide range of clientele and the success that stems from the adage that I was brought up with – ‘serve others’ and ‘always tell the truth’.
In between sales, I studied and gained my Diploma of Business Studies in Real Estate from Massey University – officially this provides me with Branch Manager status. It has also allowed me to become an Associate of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (AREINZ).
I derive immense satisfaction from a significant amount of repeat referral business and operate an extensive database to keep in contact with past, present and future clients.
You can safely say I’m from the old school. I try to listen to what my clients say to me and will go out of my way to cater to their needs. As my history shows, I’m not in it for the short haul. My goal is to serve my clients as best as I know how.
My upbringing taught me to accept that there are so many valid ‘life values’, philosophies and view-points. Hence being flexible and adaptable comes naturally.
THE SCIENCE OF SELLING WITH THE ART OF LISTENING
…That’s what I bring to the people I work with!
I have lived in New Zealand with my family for the past 18 years, two of which were spent in property development.
I have worked in the real estate industry for the last fourteen years.
Prior to real estate, I obtained vice Professor in Science & Atmosphere and spent 15 years teaching in University in Beijing. I developed my communication and organisational skills in this role, enabling me to analyse the property market in a scientific manner so that you, the client, will benefit.
I speak both Mandarin and English which enables me to communicate effectively with clients from many cultures. I am a patient person, I listen to your needs and I am willing to offer my professional views about your property requirements at all times.
The above mix of attributes means that I can achieve the best possible results for my clients and I offer you the benefit of sales and marketing experience gained from over a decade in the industry.

Matt O'Rourke works in partnership with Ryan Harding
Top Salesperson, Grey Lynn Branch, 2016
The simple fact is working with Matt and Ryan gets you more money. They achieve this by offering more.... More service, more exposure, more marketing platforms, more relationships with more buyers, more impact and more buyer engagement at open homes. Working with two agents, costs you no more.
Matt and Ryan met whilst doing their real-estate papers. They formed a strong friendship and decided to work as a team from the get-go. At open homes, one is on the door on the iPad taking names and numbers and the other is circulating the home talking to buyers. Working as a duo allows them to form relationships and trust with more buyer types. Having trust from buyers is very important come crunch time.
"They were straight up and really changed my opinion of typical real-estate agents"
Matt and Ryan joined Barfoot & Thompson because of the family history of the company. The non-franchised business model was also a driving factor behind their decision, this gives them another string to their bow when achieving premium results for clients. Because after all, that's what they are there for.
Matt and Ryan's clients can feel at ease with their relaxed 'no-pressure' approach, but equally appreciate the enthusiasm and drive for amazing results. They are real "go getters" who offer a very efficient and personalised service that sets them apart.
"The dynamic duo delivered a comprehensive and effective marketing plan"
Working in partnership provides clients with a comprehensive service at all times. Matt and Ryan also invest in their team with a dedicated personal assistant (PA) to enhance their commitment to client satisfaction.
"We are genuinely grateful to Matt and Ryan for their hard work, absolute professionalism and ultimately, delivering the goods, and would recommend them to anyone selling their home"
